The time and energy put forth at the early stages of a project, during the conceptual design and design development phases, is well worth it.
The excitement of wanting to get a project under construction quickly can sometimes detract from thoroughly considering all landscape options.
I believe this “pre-planning” phase ensures that the overall site plan has addressed all client goals and expectations and has taken into account all relevant site features and existing conditions.
After interviews with the client and a site analysis, I present preliminary design drawings, often times with alternatives for certain portions of the project area. Typically there is a round of refinements as the design evolves into a plan that best represents the client’s interests and vision.
The final, technical plans are rendered in AutoCAD. These plans clearly show all the detail necessary to submit to the Town or County for approval if needed, and to get accurate, competitive bids from landscape contractors. This comprehensive plan set is used as a reference by all parties during construction to promote a clear understanding of the contract requirements and expectations.
